Business in the Time of COVID-19
Business in the Time of COVID-19. COVID-19 has affected us all, both personally and professionally. This time of uncertainty, concern for our health and that of our employees, and the fear of market survival has shown us how quickly a virus can threaten everything we’ve built and worked on for years. How do we cope with such a situation, and could an eventual end also mark a new beginning?
When facing difficult times, we must not stop and overthink every possible scenario; instead, we should keep moving forward, tackling each day, each problem, and each stress. If we stop and focus solely on COVID-19 and its negative impacts, we’ll start losing control of our business processes and soon find ourselves in a whirlwind of helplessness and despair. So let’s do what we can each day—solve small problems, introduce some innovation to our business, educate ourselves and our employees, or simply tidy up our files. Don’t allow passivity to take over; be active in every area you can. By moving forward, new opportunities will arise, we’ll learn new things, and lay the foundation for a stronger business once this is over.
Every crisis, including this pandemic, brings out all the negatives and weaknesses within a business. During calm times, issues or weak links may not be apparent, but as soon as a crisis strikes, it becomes clear what isn’t working. Use this crisis to make necessary changes to the business to improve areas that hinder progress. Crises demand fast and decisive action, allowing us to implement changes quickly. Let’s use this time to reorganize, deal with the ‘skeletons in the closet,’ and come out stronger.
Be flexible, optimistic, and above all, persistent, as we push through this crisis because, eventually, it must come to an end. After all, if Marquez’s love could survive in the time of cholera, I believe our business can survive COVID-19 too.
